Scanner resolution is a measure of the number of dots per inch (dpi) used in the scanning process. Resolution is set when you choose a print path and can be changed by selecting CUSTOM on the menu bar and then selecting PRINT PATH from the list of commands.

To get the most out of resolution, do not set the resolution for a given scan higher than necessary. Extra resolution does not enhance detail; rather, it simply eats up more disk space. Note that the larger the image to be scanned, the less resolution available at the time of scanning. Once an image is scanned at a certain dpi, the only way to increase the dpi is to start over and re-scan it.
