Ontario Premier Mike Harris Appoints A&L President Alex Yuan To Jobs And Investment Board

Alex Yuan, President of A&L Computer Software Limited, was among 16 Ontarians recognized for their business and community leadership who were appointed by Mike Harris to the Ontario Jobs and Investment Board.

In a May 28 press release Mike Harris said "The Ontario Jobs and Investment Board will play an important role in the next phase of the government’s jobs agenda. The Board will help build upon the Province’s strong economic performance that, to date, has paved the way for over 365,000 new private sector jobs since 1995. The members of the Board represent the drive and vision that is fueling our economy and creating more jobs in Ontario than the rest of Canada’s provinces combined."

Government Ministers on the Board include Ernie Eves, Deputy Premier and Minister of Finance, Dave Johnson, Minister of Education and Training, Al Palladini, Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Tourism and Jim Wilson, Minister of Energy, Science and Technology.

The Board will be assisted by three special advisory panels focusing their work on three themes integral to long-term economic prosperity for Ontario:

  1. Creating and Nurturing an Innovation Culture

  2. Preparing People for Tomorrow’s Jobs

  3. Creating Infrastructure for Growth and Competitiveness

The panels will begin their work in June, seeking input from a number of sources including employers, local economic development organizations, industry, academia, labour and the general public. They will present their recommendations to the Board in early 1999.
